There are several types of Vegetarian diets, including strict Vegan diets (no animal products may be consumed) and lacto-ovo diets, in which vegetarians may consume cheese, eggs, and other dairy products. It is essential that vegetarians carefully balance their nutrition and diabetes vitamins so that they are able to obtain the proper amount of protein to stay healthy
In order for diabetics to free themselves of diabetes complications, they need to learn about diabetic diet basics. Learning and practicing diabetes diet basics has been proven to control blood sugar levels and control body fat weight. And here is some very positive news: if you know how to improve your health, you can free yourself from many diabetes complications. While there are many ways this can be achieved, developing an insight into the diabetes diet basics will certainly go a long way and also check blood sugar levels through body fat monitor and scales.
Vegetarianism and Veganism
According to the Mayo Clinic, Diabetics may benefit greatly from adopting a vegetarian or vegan diet. While vegetarian and vegan diets differ greatly in terms of what sorts of foods can be eaten, the major characteristic of both is that vegetarians and vegans do not eat meat. A vegetarian is generally a person that does not consume meat, but may consume animal products, such as:
• Milk and eggs (lacto-ovo vegetarian).
• fish (pesco vegetarian)
A vegan, however, does not consume any animal products at all: No meat, eggs, cheese or milk. Also vegans do not use products made from or with animal products like wool, leather, cosmetics, etc.
Vegan diets tend to be healthy, when they are closely monitored and balanced with foods from every food group but meat and dairy. In fact, a vegan diet and diabetic food plan is cholesterol-free and low in saturated fats. Both vegan and vegetarian diets are low in calories and include large amounts of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes. As such, the vegan and vegetarian diet tends to include healthy foods that are low in fat and sugar.
Naturally, when a person consumes very little sugar and has a predominantly natural diet, he or she can usually lose weight and maintain that weight loss. Because Diabetes is a disease that is made better by limited sugar in take and by staying at a healthy weight, the vegan and vegetarian diabetic diet plan tend to be very suitable.
Additionally, while the vegan and vegetarian diets cannot cure diabetes, they can reduce the risk of common complications, such as heart and kidney disease. Heart disease is generally called by high blood pressure and cholesterol, which are both practically eliminated through a vegetarian diet and blood glucose test kit. Kidney disease, which can be made worse by consuming protein, can be delayed by eliminating meat proteins and adopting the healthier vegan and vegetarian nutritional standards.
Portion control plates play an important role in managing diabetes. Portion control dishes are designed with correct portion recommendations of meat, soup, vegetables, soups, fruits etc. It helps an individual to keep their weight and blood sugar level in watch.
You will want your diabetes diet plan and diabetic diet foods to be balanced, healthy, and maintain the right amount of calories to maintain a proper body weight. Now, some may be shaking their head at this notion. They may agree wholeheartedly that this is the right plan of action to take. Yet, they may not exactly know how to select and prepare their meals in such a way.
Before beginning a vegan or vegetarian diet, be sure to consult with your doctor or dietician. Vegan and vegetarian diets remove the most common sources of important proteins and vitamins. Therefore, it is important to understand what supplements for diabetes you will need to take in order to make up for those losses.

Some common causes of diabetic coma
Diabetic coma is a reversible form of coma found in people with diabetes mellitus. It is a medical emergency. In most medical contexts, the term diabetic coma refers to the diagnostically dilemma posed when a physician is confronted with an unconscious patient about whom nothing is known except that he has diabetes.
A diabetic coma is a condition in which a person with diabetes lapses into a coma due to complications relating to diabetes. In most cases, low blood sugar is the primary reason why an otherwise health patient might lapse into a coma as a result of diabetes. However, other conditions, such as ketoacidosis (kEt-O-as-i-'dO-sis) or nonketotic hyperosmolar (non-kE-'tät-ik hahy-per os-moh-ler) coma occur. One should always use blood glucose test meter for knowing blood sugar levels. Because diabetics are frequently at risk for lapsing into an unconscious state, such as a coma, it is important for diabetics to tell their loved ones about their condition. Many diabetics will also have an emergency diabetes test kit on hand so that they can be quickly revived in the event that they lapse into a coma due to low blood sugar levels.
Here are some common causes of diabetic coma:
Hypoglycemia (hahy-poh-glahy-see-mee-uh)
Hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar levels, especially effects Type 1 diabetics that take insulin syringes in order to control their blood sugar levels. In most cases, one can avoid falling into a low blood sugar coma by simply drinking juice or eating diabetic diet foods with carbohydrates at the first sign of low blood sugar levels.04820-1.jpg
In most cases, diabetics will have low blood sugar levels during sleep, after heavy drinking, after taking medications, diabetic nutritional supplements, or during intense periods of exercise. In order to revive an unconscious hypoglycemic patient, simply inject diabetic strips the individual with glucose in order to elevate the blood sugar back to a normal level.
Ketoacidosis (kEt-O-as-i-'dO-sis) Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) occurs as a result any combination of high blood sugar levels, dehydration, shock and exhaustion. Coma generally occurs after a diabetic is already showing signs of illness, such as vomiting and hyperventilation.
When a patient has early or middle stages of ketoacidosis, he or she will be flushed and have deep, rapid breaths. Once the person lapses into a coma, the breathing will become shallow, the heart rate will increase and the body will become dehydrated. Treatment for ketoacidosis generally involves an intravenous saline drip that includes potassium and other electrolytes that the body needs in order to restore balance.
Nonketotic Hyperosmolar coma (non-kE-'tät-ik hahy-per os-moh-ler)Nonketotic hypersmolar coma is similar to ketoacidosis coma, but is usually accompanied by lethargy rather than signs of a serious illness (such as vomiting). Generally, the condition involves hyperglycemia (high blood sugar levels) combined with dehydration. Diabetic should use blood sugar meters for testing blood sugar levels. The condition most often occurs in patients that have Type 2 diabetes.Type 2 diabetics often already have signs of dehydration and lethargy, which may make nonketotic hyperosmolar coma difficult to detect before the onset.
Treatment for Nonketotic hyper molar (non-kE-'tät-ik hahy-per os-moh-ler) coma involves a gradual rehydration of the body combined with insulin medications. Use blood glucose monitors and test for Low Blood Sugar and avoid Diabetic Coma.BAL80103-1.jpg

Diabetes and Lifestyle Change
When it comes to staying healthy, doctors of people with diabetes will repeatedly tell them that health is a numbers game; there are certain numbers that all healthy people should remember. Newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetics must change parts of their diabetes lifestyle to control their blood sugar and get better. Here are some tips to help you keep an eye on your overall health - while sticking with the numbers.
[1] 5 Fruits and Veggies
Everyone should remember to eat a total of five fruits and veggies each day. You can mix and match your fruits as much as Vegetable Tray you like as long as you reach five by the end of the day. Having a hard time making sure you get your five in? Here are some ways you can sneak in an extra serving or two:
• Add a small handful or raisins or banana to your cereal in the morning. • Drink a smoothie instead of a soda (for as many as four fruits and veggies).
• Slice a tomato on top of your turkey sandwich.
• Stir mushrooms and onions into your breakfast omelet. • Reach for an apple rather than a granola bar for your afternoon diabetics snacks.
• Have a glass of 100% fruit juice before work or after a workout.
• Keep dried fruit and sugar free cookies in your desk or car to satisfy that mid-day sweet tooth.
[2] Hours of Sleep
Studies prove time and again that every needs about eight hours of sleep each night. However, most people do not allow themselves the luxury of the full recommended dosage of R & R. By going to bed at a reasonable hour (when you are tired) and sleeping a full eight hours, your body will feel rested, restored, and will ultimately function at a higher level than if it were deprived of sleep.
If you are having difficulty sleeping, take a look at your overall stress level, diet, exercise routine, use incontinence products, and sleeping habits. Small changes can lead to big results. Speak to your doctor if you have trouble sleeping for a prolonged amount of time.
[3] 30 Minutes of Exercise with diabetic shoes
Peripheral Neuropathy is one of the common side effects of diabetes, which can cause insensitivity, or a loss of sensation in the extremities to feel pain, heat, and cold in a diabetic person. It is very important for a diabetic person to take care of foot related injuries and wear specially designed shoes for diabetics, diabetic socks for men and diabetic socks women.
Whether you are Diabetic or not, it is important to get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. These 30 minutes does Seniors Walking not have to occur at the same time? Often, busy people may only be able to sneak in 15 minutes walks with specially designed diabetics shoes here or there. However, it is important that you set aside enough time each day to get your heart rate up, your blood pumping, and your muscles moving.
Having a hard time sneaking in 30 minutes? Here are some quick tips that everyone can do:
• Take two 15 minute walks (15 minutes is roughly one mile).
• Clean the house vigorously (try to work up a sweat).
• Do floor exercises by wearing men's and women's diabetic dress shoes for 10 minutes three times a day (sit-ups, push-ups, calf raises, stair climbing). • Walk during lunch or walk to lunch.
• Take a bike to visit a friend or run to the store rather than a car.
• Make exercise a family event by taking the kids to the park, a walking trail, gym, or track.
[4] 8 Glasses of Water
In order for your body to function properly, your organs need to be well-hydrated. Research shows that in order to maintain hydration, people should drink anywhere from three to eight glasses of water each day. Water can be flavored water, including some juices, as well. Also, may fruits and veggies contain large amounts of water that can help the body stay hydrated.

Tips for Traveling with Diabetes Medicines
Insulin needlesInsulin needles
People with diabetes, going on vacations or traveling for business purpose requires extra planning for diabetes medications. Changes in meal patterns, activity levels, and time zones can affect your blood sugar levels.
It's nearly summer, time for a trip to the beach, the mountains, or beyond. Wherever you're vacationing, some advance planning will help ensure you have a healthy trip. Before you travel, here is what to do:
1. Prepare your paperwork
Before you hit the road, gets a letter from your doctor explaining how you take care of your diabetes. If you use insulin or any other medications or lancing devices, it should list them. In case of emergency, you should also have a prescription for insulin or oral medication.
Are you traveling outside the U.S.? Be aware that prescription laws may be different in other countries than they are in the U.S. You can get a list of International Diabetes Federation groups from www.idf.org.You may also want to get a list of English-speaking doctors in the country or countries you plan to visit. Contact the International Association for Medical Assistance to Travelers at www.iamat.org.
2. Pack smart
Pack at least twice as much medication and glucose-testing equipment (diabetes test strips, glucose test meters, body fat weight scale and monitors etc) as you expect to need. Have a carry-on bag with you at all times that contain:
• Your insulin and testing supplies • Extra batteries for your diabetic glucose meter • All oral medications • Your ID and diabetes identity card • An air-tight snack pack of crackers or cheese, peanut butter, fruit, a juice box, and hard candy or glucose tablets
3. Get ready to eat
When flying, you can request a special meal or diabetic diet meals; check with your airlines to find out how much in advance you need to do this. If you use insulin, wait until you see your diabetic meals coming before you give yourself an injection so a delay doesn't result in low blood sugar. To be safe, always carry some food with you.
4. Store insulin and insulin needles properly
Think about where you'll store your insulin. It doesn't have to be refrigerated, but storing it somewhere hot, such as in the glove compartment, or somewhere very cold, on ice, for example, can cause it to lose strength. Look for a travel pack that keeps insulin cool.
5. Plan for time zone changes
If you use insulin and plan to travel to another time zone, consult with your doctor or diabetes educator before you leave. If you're heading east, you'll have a shorter day, meaning you may need less insulin; if you go west, the longer day may mean you'll need more insulin.
6. Allow time to rest
When you reach your destination, especially if you've had a long trip, take it easy for a few days. Check your blood sugar often with blood sugar monitors. When you're out seeing the sights, wear comfortable diabetics shoes and don't go barefoot. Check your feet daily for blisters, scratches, or redness, and seek medical care at the first sign of any of these.
Make taking care of your diabetes a priority on your travels and you'll be rewarded with a fun and healthy vacation. Bon voyage!

Looking after your diabetes!
Diabetes Insulin PumpDiabetes Insulin Pump
I'm Deborah Susan, a dietician and personal trainer specializing in nutrition and physical fitness for diabetics. Today I shall write on how you can look after your diabetes and continue to lead a healthy, normal and fruitful life.
Looking after your diabetes
The secret to continued good health and fruitful life despite diabetes lies in regular testing of your blood glucose, not missing any prescribed glucose tablets or insulin dosage and a healthy lifestyle. Today I will concentrate on how you can monitor your blood glucose.
Monitoring your blood glucose levels (Glucose testing strips)
The key to keeping your blood glucose levels or (sugar levels as it is commonly known), under control is to keep your sugar level within the recommended range of 4 to 7 millimoles per liter. Only regular monitoring with diabetic strips can help you achieve this.
Measuring your own blood glucose levels is quite easy if you have a good quality branded digital blood glucose monitors. If you don't have one the neighborhood chemist or any online website specializing in diabetes monitoring tools can help you.
When it comes to glucose monitors, accuracy is the key, so do not buy cheap Chinese glucose monitors. Our own branded blood glucose test meter (glucometers) is highly accurate and usually cost between $50 and $75. In addition to the glucometer, you will also need a box of test strips ($40~$60) and a pack of Lancets ($15~$25). The diabetic test strip and lancets are to be replenished as and when required. Replace the battery in the Glucometer as and when required. If the blood sugar meters does not have a battery level indicator you should replace the battery in the glucometer every six months or so. A weak battery can induce faulty results.
Tip: Buy a blood glucose test strips that has a large digital readout, adequate memory and battery indicator.
When and how often you use the blood sugar monitors depends on your treatment, the food you consume and level of physical activity. Apart from regular testing at home, you should also do an HbA1c test every six months. This test is done at your local diabetes clinic and the result gives you an overall picture of your blood glucose levels. HbA1c test results should be as close to 7% (or below). Even a tiny fraction above 7% should be brought to the attention of your doctor.
You can keep your blood glucose under control by:
1) Eating regular small healthy diabetic diet meals so as to avoid major fluctuations in your blood glucose levels.
2) Including adequate levels of physical activity so the insulin in your body works more effectively.
3) Reducing any excess body fat by regular checkup with body fat monitor. (Include half yearly body fat analysis in your health plan/ schedule).
4) Take your diabetes (and any other prescribed) tablets and diabetes supplements according to the schedule given to you.
5) Monitor your blood glucose levels and learn to adjust your treatment according to the results.

Diagnostic tests to confirm (or deny) presence of diabetes
Wrist blood pressure monitorWrist blood pressure monitor
I'm Deborah Susan, a dietician and personal trainer specializing in nutrition and physical fitness for diabetics. Today I will write on diagnostic tests you can take to confirm (or deny) presence of diabetes.
Diagnostic tests to confirm (or deny) presence of diabetes
The most common tests are the urine and finger prick test. However, to be doubly sure, you need to conduct at least two or three lab tests including random or fasting blood glucose test meter and oral glucose tolerance tests. If test results are positive, it is a good idea to redo the tests on another randomly selected day.
Finger prick test. A finger is pricked with a sterilized device and a tiny drop of blood is collected and placed on a accu-chek active test strips. The strip is inserted into a digital diabetic test strip and an instant readout is obtained. This test takes less than a minute.
Urine test A chemical coated dipstick is dipped into a ‘sample bottle' that contains a sample of your urine. The dipstick instantly changes color in proportion to the level of glucose in the urine. This test too takes less than a minute.
Random blood glucose test A diabetic syringes is used to collect a small sample of your blood which is then analyzed in a lab. The results are often delivered the following day.
Oral glucose tolerance test You are requested not to eat or drink anything in the morning. A small blood sample is taken and sent for analysis to a laboratory. You are again requested to visit the clinic one hour after having lunch and fresh sample of blood is collected for analysis. The two pre and post results indicate your glucose tolerance level. A low tolerance level could indicate that you either have Type 2 diabetes or are on the verge of developing it.
Fasting Blood Sugar Testing Your last drink and meal should be at least 8 hours prior to taking this test. An insulin syringes is used to collect a tiny blood sample which is sent to the lab for analysis. The test results are usually received the same evening or following morning.
If all the above test results are returned positive for presence of excessive glucose, I recommend you redo the test the following week preferably at a different clinic. If the second test set too returns similar results than you can be sure you do have diabetes. Typically, glucose above 6 millimoles / liter of blood is not normal and you should consult your doctor immediately.
If diabetes is confirmed, it would be a good idea to also run a checkup on your body fat percentage through body fat monitor, blood pressure by automatic blood pressure monitor, kidneys, liver and thyroid. Additionally you should undergo a foot examination (for circulation and nerve supply) and eye examination (check for any damage due to glucose buildup).
This article concludes information I had to impart on the pre-diabetic stage. My next article shall deal with post-confirmation stage i.e. monitoring your blood glucose levels by blood glucose monitors at home and how to take care of your diabetes.

Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes Mellitus is also simply known as diabetes. It is
the disease characterized by a malfunctioning metabolism
and a high blood sugar level.
The result can be low levels of insulin or abnormal insulin
resistance. This mixed with inadequate levels of insulin
secretion results in diabetes.
Symptoms of diabetes mellitus include increased urine
production, excessive thirst, extreme fatigue, and
excessive thirst and weight loss. These symptoms though may
not be present in those people with only mildly elevated
sugar levels.
Diabetes mellitus includes type 1, type 2 and gestational
diabetes, which occur only during pregnancy. Each type has
a different cause and different severity of symptoms.
But all forms of diabetes are dangerous if not treated.
With proper management though, people with diabetes can
live a long, healthy, normal life.
The main cause of type 1 diabetes mellitus is the loss of
insulin producing cells in the pancreas. This ultimately
leads to an insulin deficiency.
Type 1 diabetes mellitus is typically found in children and
young adults. It is also termed juvenile diabetes. The
common treatment for type 1 diabetes mellitus is daily
insulin injections to replace the insulin the body is not
producing properly, along with careful blood glucose
monitoring.
Without careful monitoring and treatment, complications
from diabetes could include loss of limps such as arms,
legs and feet, blindness and diabetic comas, which can be
fatal.
It is extremely important that if you suspect you or your
child to have symptoms of diabetes, that you visit your
doctor to be tested. If the tests are positive it is not
the end of the world. With careful monitoring and care,
type 1 diabetics can live long healthy lives.

Diabetes Symptoms List
All too often we get sick but ignore the symptoms we may be
feeling, shrugging them off to a cold, stress from work, or
just not feeling well.
There are certain symptoms that shouldn’t be ignored if
they develop. These symptoms could lead to blindness,
amputation of limbs, coma or even death.
Symptoms of type 1 diabetes often come on suddenly and are
severely dramatic. The extra stress of diabetes can lead to
something called diabetic ketoacidosis.
Symptoms of ketoacidosis may include nausea and vomiting,
which may also lead to dehydration and serious problems
with the blood levels of potassium. This could lead to a
diabetic coma and ultimately death.
Other symptoms of diabetes may include extreme fatigue. We
all get tired at times, but diabetes triggers a more severe
fatigue than normal.
People with diabetes also experience unexplained weight
loss. This is because they are unable to process many of
the calories they consume. Losing sugar and water in the
urine also contributes to the weight loss.
Extreme thirst is another symptom of diabetes. Diabetes
develops high blood sugar levels and the body tries to
compensate by diluting the blood, which translates to our
brain that we are thirsty.
With this is also excessive urination. It is another way
our bodies have of getting rid of the extra sugar in our
system. But this can also lead to dehydration.
One of the hardest symptoms to deal with is poor wound
healing. Wounds heal slowly, if at all when the carrier has
diabetes. This along with infections that are not easily
remedied can attribute to ulcers and loss of limbs.

Diabetes Epidemic
With obesity levels being at an all time high, the epidemic
of type 2 diabetes is growing at an alarming rate, and will
only get worse.
Between 2001 and 2002, the diagnosis of diabetes went from
5.5 percent of Americans to an alarming 6.5 percent. In
just one year!
Overall, twelve million Americans have been diagnosed and
another 5 million Americans have diabetes and don’t know
it. And yet another 12 millions are on their way to type 2
diabetes because of impaired glucose levels.
Not knowing is the worst because risks of untreated
diabetes puts us at a terrible risk of complications
including but not limited to blindness, amputations and
ultimately death.
The stickler is, that type 2 diabetes is almost completely
preventable. Doctor’s say eat less, eat better and
exercise. The numbers show just how many Americans are
currently overweight.
Statistically, people are now living longer, and it has
been on the rise for years. But this will not continue if
type 2 diabetes is not put under control.
We are a gluttonous society and ultimately it is affecting
how we live and how long we live.
And unfortunately, the diabetes epidemic is not just a US
problem. It is spreading worldwide with epidemic reports in
Asia, the Middle East and the Caribbean.
It is estimated that by 2025, the number of diabetics
worldwide will rise to 380 million. And diabetes is now
affecting more of the young and middle-aged population in
developing countries between the ages of 40 and 59.

Diabetes in Pets
It is not only the human kind that can develop diabetes.
Even our beloved pets, no matter how well we care for them,
can develop diabetes.
This is often a scary situation for the pet owner and the
first question that is usually asked of the veterinarian is
-will my pet need to be put to sleep-
Of course this is a difficult issue and the answer may vary
on the overall age and health of your pet.
Many older pets that are diagnosed with diabetes go on to
live many more happy years, but this takes commitment and
close care of your pet.
Diabetic cats and dogs can live just as long as perfectly
healthy pet if the diabetes is diagnosed and treated
properly by both the veterinarian and the owner.
This takes great commitment from the owner. Pets must be
cared for and watched daily with a high level of care and
patience.
There can be no feeding the cat and forgetting until the
next day. There is no leaving the pet along to go on a
trip. Every day your pet will need medication, fed a proper
diet and his behavior will need to be monitored closely.
This doesn’t mean you will have to give up your job and
stay home full time with your pet, but it does mean you
will have to pay more attention to what his behavior is and
know what to do if the situation should change.
It is also more of a financial obligation to have a sick
pet. So it is something that should be discussed in length
with your vet.

Making Your Customized Diabetic Gift Basket
Diabetes creates many obstacles and can be tough to keep up with. There are medicines to take at certain times, questions that need to be answered, body parts to take extra special care of, and items to always take with you. There are varieties of gift items that can make your life as a diabetic, or some-one you know, a little more convenient and a lot more fun!
During gifting season, most people are thoroughly confused about what to gifts for diabetics; although, there are hundreds and thousands of gift options, the problem lies in the fact that most gifts are simply not suitable for those afflicted with diabetes.
In this context, while gift baskets are immensely popular as a whole, again the same problem is faced. How to include only those items that are suitable for diabetics. This is especially true since many gift baskets have this rather uncanny tendency to have sweet treats as staple among the included items.
If that is the dilemma you are facing, why not go ahead and make your own gift baskets for diabetics? That way, you will be able to choose only those items which are suitable to diabetics, and also have the added advantage of giving a very personalized gift basket for diabetics – one which the recipient will easily recognize as having a personal touch from you.
The first step is of course to get a suitable gift basket; with options galore, the choice may not be a very easy one. Perhaps, you could go for a color and design which the recipient would appreciate in particular.
Items for the basket – Aah! That will definitely be the key to success, as far as the appeal of your diabetic gift basket is concerned, so make sure that you make the best choice here. Low sugar items or sugar free items should definitely be at the top of your agenda; of course, you do have the option of not including any sweet items such as the above, at all, but what the heck – does gifting season really seem that, if there is no sweet treat included?
That said, you could also include other food items that are not in the sweet category, and yet are likely to be appreciated by the recipient, perhaps because they are personal favorites. How about some real cheese low fat, which also happens to be absolutely low-carb? Sounds perfect!
Looking beyond food items, how about some personal dress options, suited to diabetics? You could include , socks or stockings that are particularly tailored to the needs of diabetics. Also consider heart rate monitor and measurement devices, which any diabetes afflicted recipient would truly appreciate. For instance, with glucose test monitors getting more and more compact in size, they could be a potentially perfect choice for inclusion in the gift basket.
Finally, with all the choices appropriately made, now it is time to pack the basket nicely so as to maximize its appeal. Remember that, like with a lot of things in life, packaging makes a lot of difference to the appeal of the product in question! In this case, you could consider wrapping the basket up in transparent cellophane so as to showcase its contents. Further, you could tie a ribbon on top, for enhanced appeal.

Tips for a summer of Healthy Cookouts
We are all advised to live healthier lifestyles? Eat more healthily, lose weight, exercise more, stop smoking? And so on. For people who have Type 2 diabetes this advice is an important part of the management of diabetic diet menu. You may be surprised to learn that you actually have the potential to reduce the harmful effects of diabetes, purely by making some changes to your lifestyle.
Every person who has diabetes has difficult problems, which comes from the various degrees of complications that they may be dealing with. Because of the differences, some are able to eat a few more carbs than others. However, the types of foods that you should be avoiding, and those diabetic meals that you should be eating, is going to be the same for every person who is dealing with diabetes.
We focus on the role of diabetic diet and exercise in the management of Type 2 diabetes. In particular, we will take a look at the way in which diet and exercise can improve:
* Blood glucose levels
* Blood fats
* Blood pressure
Blood glucose levels: Blood glucose levels are mainly kept in check by insulin syringes and needles. Type 2 diabetes usually occurs as the result of a combination of problems with insulin activity (insulin resistance) and insulin secretion. Diet and exercise can help to combat both of these problems.
Blood fats: Many people with Type 2 diabetes have unhealthy levels of blood fats? This is commonly referred to as an unhealthy? Lipid profile? Too much of the wrong types of fat in the blood increase the risk of heart disease and circulation problems. Blood fats are mainly kept in check by body fat analyzer. Another important aim of diet and exercise in the management of your diabetes will therefore be to help keep your blood lipid levels normal.
Blood pressure: Type 2 diabetes is often accompanied by high blood pressure and this increases the risk of diabetic eye and kidney damage, as well as heart disease and circulation problems. Blood fats are mainly kept in check by automatic blood pressure monitor. Regular exercise, eating a low-fat and low-salt diet, and reducing alcohol intake can all help to lower blood pressure.
Nearly everyone knows about the dietary risks of summertime cookouts; the menu tends to be loaded with items that are high in fat, high in calories, and full of grease. # However, there are healthy alternatives that you can include in your next cookout to ensure that your diabetic diet plan stays tasty, but won't ruin your dietary goals. Here are some healthy food choices to add to your next cookout:
Grill Veggies: Cut veggies, such as peppers and onions, to roughly the diameter of a silver dollar. Dust them with a light layer of extra virgin olive oil and season to taste. Always prefer Low Fat Salad Recipes for diabetes.
Wrap the veggies tinfoil and throw the package on a grill. Cook the veggies alongside your hotdogs and hamburgers for about 20 minutes, or until the veggies are tender and hot.
Mayo-free Potato Salad: Not all potato salads diabetic recipes require mayonnaise. In fact, without the mayo, potato salads can be quite healthy and incorporate not only a healthy dose of carbohydrates, but also onions, celery, oils, and dairy. Check online for mayo-free potato salad recipes that suit your taste buds.
Full-Fruit Popsicles or Ices: Instead of offering ice cream or another high fat, high sugar dessert, plan ahead and make your own full-fruit popsicles or ices. Simply freeze any flavor of 100% fruit juice in an appropriately sized and shaped container, add small fruit chunks, and serve. You can find Popsicle trays in just about any grocery store.
Limit the Alcohol: Most people enjoy having a summertime beverage, such as a margarita, daiquiri, or even a simple beer during a cookout.
However, many fancy drinks are loaded with sugar that is not healthy for Diabetics.
While a splurge may not hurt every now and then (as long as you monitor your blood sugar level), it is always a good idea to have low-sugar alternatives such as sugar free candy and low fat desserts. One of the best low-sugar alcohol beverages is rum and diet coke.
The Right Melons: Watermelons are classic cookout favorites. However, watermelons are notorious for having loads of sugar and calories in them.
In fact, one slice can pack as much as 80 calories. Instead of serving watermelon wedges at your next cookout, opt instead for honeydew or cantaloupe.

Nutrition Basics for Diabetes
Male incontinence productsMale incontinence products In order to manage your diabetes, it is important to understand nutrition basics more than the average person. The diabetic body must maintain a careful balance of chemicals from food in order to stay healthy and continue to function normally.
The Mathematics of Nutrition
Proper nutrition comes down to basic mathematics. Despite what many fad diets suggest:
• Around 55-60% of your calories need to come from carbohydrates (1,100 - 1,200 Calories) - the most important food group.
• Less than 30% should come from fat (600 Cal.)
• 10-15% should come from proteins (200 - 300 Cal.).
For the average person maintaining a 2,000 calorie per day diabetic diet meals, here is an easy way to break down your recommended daily diabetic diet foods intake based on servings:
• Bread (whole grain is best)- 10 servings per day
• Vegetables (raw or steam is best)- 5 servings per day
• Fruits - 4 servings per day
• Meats (low saturated fat & cholesterol) - 2 servings per day
• Milk (low saturated fat)- 3 servings per day
• Fat (monounsaturated & polyunsaturated are best) - less than 67 grams per day
Why Low Carbohydrate Diets Are Dangerous
Carbohydrates are the only source of energy for the human body. Protein is the only food group without diabetes carbohydrates.
Many diets recommend eating a high amount of protein and a low amount of carbohydrates. The body simply cannot function without an energy source, so while you may lose weight on such a diet, your body will start to break down its own muscles to turn them into carbohydrates, resulting in muscle loss.
As a result, you may lose weight in the short term, but in the long term, you will suffer from energy loss, decreased brain function (the brain needs energy too!), and organ failure.
In order to prevent serious consequences of a low carbohydrate diet, it is important to incorporate a variety of different carbohydrates into the diabetic diet, including nuts, whole grains, milk, fruits, and vegetables.
Fat is Good
Fat is an essential part of the daily diabetes diet plan. Fat not only helps to keep the body warm in colder temperatures, but it also provides a cushion for the organs and tissues. Fat also helps the body absorb many essential vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamins A and D. Just be sure most of the fats you eat are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. These are mostly plant-based fats and fish oils. Avoid saturated fats (mostly animal fats) Therefore, depriving the body of fat can lead to serious long-term damage to your organs, joints, bones, and blood.
Calories Matter Most
If you are trying to lose weight, understand that calories are the essential element that you need to control. Calories are units of energy that are either used by the body for daily functioning or that are stored as fat. Therefore, if you intake more calories than you burn, those extra calories will be stored as fat, resulting in weight gain. Always follow diabetic diet and meal plans for better health.
Conversely, to lose weight, simply reduce the amount of calories that you take in so that you take in fewer calories than you burn. Keep in mind that you should consume enough calories to give you energy throughout your basic daily functions or else your body will take that energy by "eating" your muscles.
Supplements and Risks
From Creatine to Ephedrine, Synephrine to Nitric Oxide, there is a huge variety of diabetes nutritional supplements available on the market that are designed to enhance athletic performance, increase energy, and boost weight loss.
Many of these supplements actually deliver on what they say they will - but only for the short term and not without serious consequences. Each of these blood sugar supplements has its own set negative side effects that can lead to long-term bodily damage and even death.
In fact, some diabetes supplements, such as Ephedrine, have been taken off the market due to their negative side effects. Even common supplements, such as caffeine have their limits (no more than 600 milligrams per day). Before you take any form of supplements, be sure that you research the negative side effects and weigh the risks carefully.
Here is a short list of some of the common side effects of some supplements for diabetes:
• Heart failure
• Increase heart rate
• Stroke
• Constipation
• Stomach issues
• Cancer
• Blood clots
• Abnormal bone growth
• Infertility
• Loss of libido

3 Reasons People with Type 2 diabetes Have Issues Losing Weight
Type 2 diabetes is a syndrome affecting many different body organ systems, and we recognize today that a few of these areas are also associated in the weight gain that people with type 2 diabetes experience. The thyroid gland, the liver, the adrenals, the pancreas, as well as the gastrointestinal system all play a role in diabetes type 2. In addition to these bodily organs, individuals with type 2 diabetes are experiencing insulin resistance. Let's discuss some of the causative factors of excess weight and diabetes.
1. The Thyroid gland
The thyroid is a gland responsible for the regulation of our metabolic rate. When the thyroid gland is manufacturing too much thyroid hormone, it can speed the entire body up too much. On the other hand, if the thyroid gland is under producing thyroid hormone, it can slow your rate of metabolism down too much. When your metabolic rate is slow you can experience weight gain. Also, if your thyroid hormonal levels are decreased your energy levels are going to be reduced which makes it quite challenging to want to exercise. The thyroid is a essential body organ in the area of weight gain for diabetes patients and it is commonly overlooked.
2. The Liver
The liver is among the main bodily organs in your body accountable for internal cleansing. It is quite common to find increased liver enzymes on the blood exams of individuals with type 2 diabetes. Significant levels of medication together with excessive toxins in the environment can cause the liver to become overwhelmed with toxic agents. As the liver backs up it may be affected bringing about increased liver enzymes. As soon as the body loses its ability to rid itself of poisons adequately it's also common to observe increased cholesterol levels and weight gain.
3. Insulin Resistance
If you have type 2 diabetes, you also have insulin resistance. Insulin resistance means that you are having problems getting glucose from your blood stream into your cells. Because you cannot get this glucose into your cells, the level of glucose in your bloodstream rises. This extra blood glucose leads to a good deal of inflammation and also often leads to weight gain. If your system is unable to get this extra glucose into your cells to generate energy, it routes the glucose away and off to the liver so that it may be converted into triglycerides and body fat.
Insulin resistance causes you to feel worn out simply because you aren't able to generate energy or ATP within your cells and you put on weight since the glucose which should have been changed to energy has now been changed into body fat. You feel hungry regularly because your cells are hungry for energy, and you're gaining extra fat at the same time. It's additionally incredibly tough to work out because you don't have the energy reserves to do it.
The solution to beating this never-ending cycle is to have a qualified professional perform adequate tests to determine where your system has broken down. Running the conventional diabetes blood assessments is just not adequate to discover the origin of the issue
You don't have to be a prisoner to type 2 diabetes and weight gain. Find an experienced professional today that can help you discover the cause of your diabetes.

The Dangers of Dieting with Diabetes?
If you have Type 2 Diabetes and are overweight, losing 5-10% of your current weight will help improve your blood sugar levels. However, losing weight often requires you to assume a healthier life style and behavior change, not simply putting yourself on a diabetic diet. Many of the diets advertised today may be harmful and do not promote a holistic diabetes life style change.
So what are some of the Problems with dieting?
• Reduced intake of fiber, vitamins and minerals and take diabetes vitamins and supplements
• Reduced calories (units of energy that help the body function)
• Depending on medications, increased risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
• Too difficult to follow long term which often results in regaining weight
Low in fiber, vitamins and minerals: Many fad diets eliminate certain food groups all together. Over time, these types of diets may cause vitamin and/or mineral deficiencies that can have a long-term harmful effect on the body. Diets that eliminate carbohydrates are often also very low in fiber. However, fiber is important for a healthy body, especially when managing Diabetes. Fiber makes you feel satiated so that you are less likely to overeat. Fiber also helps to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of certain types of cancers.
Too few calories: Most diets have too few calories. Believe it or not, you have to eat to lose weight! Following a very low calorie diet will eventually cause your metabolism to slow down. This will cause weight gain in the long run, not weight loss. Many people who follow low calorie diets and diabetic diet foods end up with "yo-yo" weight loss and gain.
Increased Risk for Hypoglycemia: Depending on your diabetes medicine, following a diet may increase your risk for hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) in this situation always check your blood sugar level through diabetic glucose meter. Skipping meals or eating too little at a meal could result in your blood sugar going too low. This can be especially dangerous if it happens at night or while operating heavy machinery such as a car or truck, as hypoglycemia often leads to fainting and light-headedness. Always prefer to take diabetes meal plans for Hypoglycemia.
Too Difficult to Follow Long-Term: Many diets are too restrictive or too difficult for anyone to follow for a long time. The result is usually weight gain, often more than you lost. Many people end up on a cycle of weight gain, loss, and gain. This is hard on the body and not good for the metabolism.
What Should You Do to Lose Weight?
If you wish to lose weight, you should choose a variety of foods for diabetics that provide your body with the nutrients it needs. Cut back on your portions, eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains and limit saturated fats (fats from animal products and hydrogenated oils). Don't deprive yourself of the foods you love, but remember it is important to eat everything in moderation and always use to check you fat by using body fat monitor and scale constantly. Remember, if a diet sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
Exercise with Diabetic Footwear: Many people dealing with poorly controlled diabetes may suffer from damage to their nervous system. In particular, the diabetes nerve damage can occur in the feet. A common result of this would be residual numbness which is extremely problematic. When your feet become numb, you may not notice minor injuries and diabetes foot pain. This, in turn, means you do not get quick, proper treatment for the problems. Such a scenario may lead to the problem becoming far, far worse. Diabetic footwear, plus inspecting your feet daily can certainly reverse a number of dangerous problems or prevent such issues from occurring in the first place.
The design of diabetes footwear, aids in reversing a host of potential problems. On the most basic levels, the footwear can provide support for the heels, arches, and overall structure of the foot. These shoes offer extra toe room to begin with. These shoes also offer removable insoles that can be removed to create more space for swollen feet or more space to insert orthotics like arch support. This can definitely aid in improving comfort levels and alleviating pain. Additionally, such diabetes shoes can improve circulation which can also reduce potential problems and physical ailments.
Some may be concerned that diabetes footwear it is not exactly fashionable. They may assume they may look, for lack of a better word, ‘geeky' wearing such footwear. While there are definitely some items out there that are kind of dull in their appearance, some footwear are actually quite fashionable. So, you need not assume that footwear specifically designed for medical purposes lacks any fashion sense. Some folks out there put a lot of effort into the development of quality footwear. Do not dismiss their sense of style out of hand. You may really like some of the items in their inventory. Walk A Few Miles in These womens and mens diabetic shoes. And Some Lose Weight!

Yoga Helps Reduce Diabetes Complications
A group of doctors did a study on 200 Mornons in the state of Utah who fasted regularly (as part of their culture). The results were compared with other individuals (non-Mornons) that didn't fast and found remarkable differences. Specifically, X-ray scans revealed normal arteries in about half of the Mornons who fasted v/s narrowed arteries in 75 per cent individuals who didn't fast.
One of my clients came to my clinic with this magazine clipping that more or less encouraged fasting as a way to avoid diabetes and several other diseases. The research conducted by a team of doctors seemed to suggest that fasting halved the chances of getting diabetes.
The test group did not take any nourishment other than water for a period of 24 hours. All individuals were administered a series of health checks and were monitored even when they did not fast. The tests revealed that during the fasting stage, significant amounts of human growth hormone were released. The human growth hormone triggers metabolism which in turn burns fat. During the fasting stage, cholesterol levels also shot up but returned to pre-fasting stage after the fast was over.
I for one have a serious problem with the so called conclusion of this research. I admit that fasting would trigger release of human growth hormone but how effective is that in losing fat? Just as refilling your gas tank will fill up empty spaces in it, so too when you eat the next day after you fast, any little fat that might have been lost is replaced. This is a known fact. As for differences in the arteries, there is simply no evidence that fasting alone had anything to do with it. Let us not forget that the Mornons live life differently. They do not eat like we do. And even in their case, over 40% showed reduced artery width. So to draw conclusions on the basis of just one factor i.e. fasting would in my book, be ridiculous.
Fasting-hype or a home run?
In all my years of providing service and advice to the community, I've never advised fasting as a means of reducing weight or as a means of achieving other imagined benefits. Remember when you fast, the body is starved of nutrition. It sources its nourishment internally until food is again available. Once food is obtained, the first task the body does is to replenish the stocks of energy that were utilized during the fast.
Fasting as a body cleanser
Again, there isn't an iota of scientific evidence that fasting switches the body into some kind of self-cleaning mode or that fasting allows our organs to recuperate. If that were so, our genes would have programmed individual organs including the heart, to shut off from time to time.

The Basics of a Healthy Diabetes Diet!
In order for diabetics to free themselves of diabetes complications, they need to learn about diabetes diet recipes basics. Learning and practicing diabetes diet basics has been proven to control blood sugar levels and control body fat weight. And here is some very positive news: if you know how to improve your health, you can free yourself from many diabetes complications. While there are many ways this can be achieved, developing an insight into the diabetes diet basics will certainly go a long way.
Right from the start, it is important to point out that there is no simple dietary solution that can reverse diabetes. Looking for a ‘magic cure' in the form of a particular diet simply is not the way to go. However, those that understand diabetes meal planning basics will discover remarkable improvements in their blood sugar levels and body fat weight.
Why is this so? It is because the proper type two diabetes diet can aid in reducing glucose levels in the blood. That alone will have significant impact on your overall health and wellness. This does raise the question as to what dietary choices are needed to achieve such a goal. The choices are not very complicated or at least not very complicated in terms of their general description.
Basically, you need to be aware of the amount of diabetes carbohydrates that you eat and drink. Carbohydrates are, sugars, soluble fiber, and insoluble fiber. And it becomes important that no diabetes diet contains excessive amounts of easy to digest carbohydrates. And, most assuredly, you would want to avoid those carbs that come from processed, refined sugars – aka white table sugar. Such sugar is the basic ingredient of junk food which is why it is certainly best avoided.
But, that does not mean your diabetes diet should be severely restricted in terms of carb intake. You do not want to venture into the realm of a "no carb" fad diet like Adkins Diet and the Zone Diet, where you are eating tons of fats and proteins. That may give you a slim physique (Bodybuilders love the low carb diet for just this reason) but it would also be an unbalanced diet that comes with hosts of other problems. If you have kidney disease, you should avoid a high protein diet – Check with your doctor and take low fat low carb recipes.
You will want your diabetic meal plans to be balanced, healthy, and maintain the right amount of calories to maintain a proper body weight. Now, some may be shaking their head at this notion. They may agree wholeheartedly that this is the right plan of action to take. Yet, they may not exactly know how to select and prepare their meals in such a way.
Here is some good news: you may not have to do so on your own. TypeFreeDiabetes.com offers diabetic meals delivered which can purchase as a gift for a diabetic or anyone who wants to eat healthy. Such delicious meals are perfectly designed by our chefs to ensure you are getting the right amount of carbs, fats, and proteins. And, of course, the calorie counts of the meals will not promote weight gain.
For those that may be struggling with crafting a diabetes diet plan, such delivered prepared meals may prove to be the best purchase they could make. Why make meal selections difficult for yourself when the meals are just waiting for you to pick out? This is the much easier plan.

Healthy and Fulfilling Life despite Diabetes
Diabetic glucose meterDiabetic glucose meter
I'm Deborah Susan, a dietician and personal trainer specializing in nutrition, physical fitness and diabetes diet plan for diabetics. Over the years I've noticed a trend in the questions that diabetics and their family members have been asking. Also, many of my clients had often suggested I not let my knowledge and experience go waste; instead, I should write a book that would help society cope and live a healthy life despite diabetes. A friend recently suggested I start with an article and if I like the response I could write a book.
Although many have said I have a way with words, I must state that I am not a writer or author and have until today, never written so much as an article let alone a book. I've decided to take the plunge primarily because I have seen intense and unnecessary suffering caused by wrong information, phobia, misguidance and myths. Lack of proper guidance and knowledge ultimately proves expensive in more ways than can be imagined.
In writing these article, it is my ardent desire to provide useful, practical knowledge (including a few low fat low carb recipes for diabetic) to help people living with diabetes to make decisions that enable them to live successfully with diabetes.
To begin with, although 99% of you probably already know what diabetes is, I'd like to define it precisely so that at the end of this first article, we are all on the same page and do not have differing ideas on what diabetes is.
What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a condition in which your body cannot control the level of glucose (sugar) in your blood because (a) your pancreas (not kidneys) does not produce enough insulin or (b) your body cells are resistant to the action of insulin, that's why we take insulin diabetic syringes.
When your blood glucose level rises, the glucose cannot get into the cells which means despite all the sugar, your body is deprived of energy. Lack of energy triggers the break down and conversion of fat and muscles into alternate source of energy. Always prefer to use diabetic glucose meter for checking your glucose level regularly
What goes wrong in diabetes?
Since the Glucose in your blood does not get utilized, it gets flushed out through urine. Meanwhile the body breaks down fat and muscle as an alternate energy source causing rapid (and dangerous) weight loss. Rapid break down of fat causes build up of toxic chemicals in your blood. If left unattended, all organs in the body begin to deteriorate and fail, ultimately leading to death – and a painful one at that.
Type 1 Diabetes
Myth: Diabetes begins with Type 1 and then progress to Type 2
Truth: Wrong! Type 1 and Type 2 are two totally different types of diabetes
People diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes do not produce any insulin. They need to be treated with insulin given by insulin syringes & injection or via diabetes Insulin Pump. (Insulin via a tablet would not be effective as it would be destroyed in the digestion process).
Type 2 Diabetes
This is the more common form of diabetes. Obesity is the primary reason for Type 2 diabetes. People diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes do not produce sufficient quantities of insulin. Initially your pancreas respond to the demand (created by obesity), by producing more insulin. However, it cannot do so indefinitely. Corrective action includes reducing body fat by checking through Body Fat Scales and leading a healthier lifestyle. If corrective action is taken soon enough, then people suffering from Type 2 diabetes need not take any medication such as glucose tablets or glucose supplements and can lead a healthy normal life. Failure to take corrective action will create a need for insulin injections to supplement the inadequate quantum of insulin produced by your pancreas.
Myth: Type 1 diabetes is serious
Truth: Yes and No. However Type 2 likely to be more harmful because people often have it for years before being diagnosed. Having it for years can lead to long term complications.
